Hailing from a lineage steeped in musical tradition, Anthony Woodroffe Jr., known affectionately as ‘Tony Paul,’ emerged as a prodigious talent from an early age. Raised amidst the vibrant rhythms of Trinidad and Tobago, his passion for the arts blossomed, igniting a journey that would see him ascend to the forefront of the jazz scene.
During his formative years, Anthony’s prowess shone brightly in the prestigious Trinidad and Tobago Music Festival, where he claimed numerous accolades, including coveted titles such as Best Junior Instrumentalist and Most Outstanding Wind Instrumentalist. This early recognition laid the foundation for a career marked by excellence and innovation.
As a fixture in the local jazz circuit, Anthony quickly established himself as a "first call" musician, sought after for his virtuosity both as a sideman and a featured soloist. His collaborations with Trinidadian luminaries such as Ray Holman and Clive Zanda showcased his versatility and artistry, earning him acclaim among peers and audiences alike.
Venturing beyond his homeland, Anthony's talents have graced international stages, including the prestigious Tobago Jazz Experience and the Jazz and Creole Festival in Dominica, where he mesmerized audiences with his dynamic performances alongside the acclaimed Caribbean Jazz ensemble, Elan Parle.
Fueling his artistic journey with a quest for knowledge, Anthony pursued higher education at the esteemed Leeds College of Music (LCM) in the UK, where he earned a BA (Hons) in Jazz Studies. He further honed his craft at Boston University, attaining a MMus in Music Education, a testament to his commitment to musical excellence and pedagogy.
Currently, Anthony serves as a beacon of inspiration at The Academy for the Performing Arts (UTT), where he holds the esteemed position of Senior Instructor of Woodwinds. Leading the Jazz & Contemporary Music Studio, he spearheads the development of the jazz curriculum, nurturing the next generation of musical talent with passion and dedication.
