Augustus Peters, the most sought-after steel pan manufacturer and tuner of his generation, is revolutionizing the steel pan industry with his company, APS. Based in Trinidad, APS has set a new global standard, with Peters' expertly crafted steel pans resonating in countries worldwide at an unprecedented rate.
Peters' journey with the steel pan began in 2002, playing at his local church and later leading the San Juan North Secondary High School band. His passion led him to train under veteran tuner Jimi Phillip in 2004 and head tuner Mario Joseph at Trinidad and Tobago Instruments Limited in 2005. By 2008, he had honed his skills and started his own business, working with Simon’s Musical Supplies, Gill’s Pan Shop, and various other entities in Trinidad and Tobago.
In 2010, Peters graduated with honors from the University of Trinidad and Tobago’s Advanced Steelpan Tuning course, learning from esteemed mentors like Clifford ‘Rope’ Alfred and Bertie Marshall. His craftsmanship gained both local and international acclaim, servicing renowned steel bands such as Massy Trinidad All Stars and Nutrien Silver Stars, as well as global groups like the Suzuki Wizards of Grenada and Pan Evolution Steel Orchestra of New York.
Notable highlights of Peters' career include tuning a tenor pan gifted to Prince William and Kate Middleton by the Trinidad and Tobago government in 2011, and designing a steel pan package for African superstar Burna Boy, presented at the 2022 TOMAC Festival.
